This was the cover for a sunglass catalog. The layouts were being handled by an ad agency, but I was given some latitude on how to shoot the cover.

The art director wanted the model (Steve, the owner of the sunglass company) to wear multiple glasses, and a backwards denim jacket; I got to figure out the rest.

First, I had Steve sit in a way that would help keep him as still as possible. I made the first normal exposure with a slightly diffused, but directional, main light from the left. Then, while Steve sat still, I made two more exposures -on the same sheet of film) with lights (with different colored gels) on just the background paper. For each exposure, I extended the bellows slightly by moving the rear standard back, letting the out of focus profile self-mask each additional exposure.
